Abstract(s)
AbstractLanguage
Assessing global freshwater resources and human water use is of value for a number of needs but challenging. The global water use and water availability model WaterGAP has been in development since 1996 and has served a range of applications such as assessments of global water resources and water stress, also under the impact of climate change, drought hazard quantification, Life Cycle Assessments, water (over)use and consequently depletion of water resources and a better understanding of terrestrial water storage variations (jointly with satellite observations). Here, the reader can download model output for the time periods 1850 to 2014 (historical) and 2015 to 2100 (SSP126, SSP585) that was computed by driving WaterGAP v2.2e by 5 GCM input datasets (climate forcings).

Though not part of the official ISIMIP3b repository, these datasets adhere to ISIMIP guidelines and are stored here to support replication of analyses conducted in Lorenz Jackson's master’s thesis (2024) regarding potential future climate change impacts on global water resources (for details see the model description paper of v2.2e, currently accepted 10.5194/gmd-2023-213).

Description(s)
DescriptionLanguage
These datasets, comprising 15 compressed NetCDF files with monthly data for precipitation and net cell runoff across a historical period and SSP126 and SSP585 scenarios, along with one file of maximum soil moisture, were generated using the WaterGAP2.2e model and utilized in the master’s thesis by Lorenz Jackson (2024) to analyze the potential future impacts of climate change on water resources.

While these datasets are not part of the official ISIMIP repository, they adhere to ISIMIP framework guidelines and follow ISIMIP naming conventions, ensuring compatibility with broader climate research datasets.

- Format: NetCDF (compressed)
- Spatial Resolution: 0.5° x 0.5°
- Temporal Resolution: Monthly
- Variables: Precipitation, Net Cell Runoff, Maximal Soil Moisture
- Scenarios: Historical (1850-2014), SSP126 (2015-2100), SSP585 (2015-2100)
